rumpy’s Performance and Empire’s goal is to help children and families affected

MOORESVILLE, NC (February 8, 2021) — The ARCA Menards Series team of Empire Racing Group, LLC and Grumpy’s Performance have launched a foundation to help raise funds and awareness for Prader-Willi Syndrome, which affects children and their ability to function on daily basis.

PWS occurs in 1 of 12,000 births. Dr. Andres Prader and Dr. Heinrich Willi discovered PWS and how it affects the Hypothalamus, the small endocrine organ at the base of the brain that plays a crucial role in many bodily functions. Those functions are regulating hunger, body temperature, balance, pain, sleep mode and wake mode, emotions, fertility and bodily fluids balance. For more information log on to www.PWSAUSA.org

Therefore, Sherry Creek of Empire/Grumpy’s has developed a foundation called “Team Charlie and the Fight against Prader-Willi Syndrome” to raise awareness.

Charlie Rivers Graham is a 13-year old man and personal friend of the team born with the exceedingly rare condition. He understands he’s a little different and functions in a different manner than most kids his age, including his four siblings. His daily routine is especially important for him to have a quality of life.

“Charlie needs a routine with time of day for eating breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as a grooming routine,” said Shelly Graham, his mother. “One of the most challenging aspects is keeping Charlie’s hunger under control. There are times I need to monitor the pantry door and certain foods so he can’t sneak a snack when I am not looking. At his age, Charlie’s hunger seems constant, like most typical teenagers, but to a higher degree.

This video link offers a better understanding of how the daily routine helps others with PWS. It features Max and his dad, Lon https://vimeo.com/36053096?ref=em-share

With PWS, there are multiple other physical aspects these children face such as scoliosis, skin issues, and dental problems with cavities because of inactive saliva glands. As of now, there is no cure increasing the need to help the children and their families.

“Seeing how Prader-Willi Syndrome affects children like Charlie and Max has been so eye opening as to what they and their families endure because of this disease,” said Sherry Creek of Empire Racing Group and Grumpy’s Performance. “This foundation and raising awareness of PWS through our team and racing is the least we can do to help. My hope is people will take the time to learn more and join assisting.”

To show their support, Empire and Grumpy’s Performance will carry a decal on the No. 8 Chevrolet of driver Sean Corr and teammate Rich Bickle in the No. 45 Chevrolet for the upcoming ARCA Menards race at Daytona International Speedway.
